Weekly Round-Up: February 26, 2022

Well hello, beautiful people! It’s Saturday! I’m not gonna lie, between the news and the weather it’s been a very stressful week. So I’m taking today to relax and de-stress. A self-care day if you will. I’m going to turn off the news, stay off social media, and read or, just hear me out, watch Disney vlogs. They relax me.

What I Read This Week

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade

This quirky love letter to fanfiction and TV fantasy epics is one of my favorite books so far this year. I loved everything about this story. Pretty sure I’m a romance convert now.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Another quirky romance story. This time it’s all about a woman in STEM mixed with some LGBTQI+ rep. Plus fake dating. I really need to read more than just this trope.

In Death Series Books 11, 12, & 13 by J.D. Robb

I read three more books in the In Death series. I’m making good headway in this series re-read. It’s making me happy! And the fact that I’m managing to read other books as well? That’s a miracle.

I wrote a review for Spoiler Alert on Monday. If you hadn’t guessed from how I gushed about it above, I like it.

Tuesday’s Top Ten list was all about Dynamic Duos. It’s a mix of romantic and friendship pairings.

WWW Wednesday was not a big surprise. Mostly because it featured a few In Death books.

Thursday was my review for The Love Hypothesis. Another book I really enjoyed.

First Lines Friday was a book I’m hoping to finish in the next couple of days. Any guesses?

In Other News

Disney had their media preview for the new Star Wars Galatic Starcruiser immersive hotel this past week and the videos and TikToks are all going up. It looks absolutely amazing. I wasn’t really sold on it before, but I am now. I have begged the Hubs to let me book us one of the two-day stays. He’s not convinced yet, mostly because of the outrageous price point (not that I blame him).

The video below is from The Tim Tracker YouTube channel. It’s an hour and a half long but it really goes into a lot of the experience. Just a disclaimer, the media persons only spent 4 hours at the hotel, so they got a condensed experience.

So if you’ll excuse me, I have some relaxing to do. And, let’s be honest, probably more Star Wars vlogs to watch.

Weekly Round-Up: Week of February 12, 2022

Well hello! And how was your week? Mine was good, if not a little bit chaotic. I got a new car a month ago, and it’s been interesting figuring out how some of the programs and features work. I spent all day a few days ago trying to figure out how to make my multitude of playlists work with android auto. Twas…interesting.

But on to the wrap-up!

What I Read This Week

I finished another three of the In Death series books. I started Neon Gods by Katee Robert (it’s good!) and got very close to finishing it last night, but alas, the need to sleep won out. I should have that finished today! Huzzah!

Instagram Posts

Y’all, I posted this before I finished the book. I’m not saying I have a problem, but I might have a problem.

Blog Posts

Monday saw the arrival of January’s book haul where I pledged to do better this month. Spoiler alert, I’m not.

Tuesday was my very first Top 5 Tuesday post. I really enjoyed doing it, so I don’t think it will be the last!

Wednesday brought with it WWW Wednesday. I always put in there what I plan on reading next, but it never actually happens!

Thursday was my Romantic TBR for February. I thought I picked some good books this month.

Friday happened to be the day of First Lines Friday. I’m really hoping I get to the book selected this year.

In Other News

This week the Hubs and I celebrated our 8th anniversary! We don’t usually exchange gifts, but this year was the exception. An idea that was had in the car on the way to dinner. We plan very well.

But the Hubs got me this Lego set:

I have coveted this set for a while. And it fits in perfectly in my front room with all my plants and books. And in case you are wondering, he too got Legos. We like Legos in this house. By the way, if you want this Lego set it is on backorder on the Lego website.

How did your week go?

Weekly Wrap-Up: Week of February 5, 2022

Well hello, beautiful people! Just a random thing. Did you know you can get free books from Amazon as long as you have a Prime membership? It’s called Amazon First Reads, and every month you get to select from several new release titles and choose one. This month you get to pick two! All you have to do is type Kindle First Reads into the Amazon search bar and it should take you to the page for it. But yeah, free! I just thought I would share this very valuable information with you. I also feel like I’ve shared this before…

What I Read This Week

Immortal In Death by J.D. Robb

Book three in the In Death series. A top model is found brutally murdered and Eve’s best friend is a suspect. I loved how Eve struggled with being both a cop and a friend in this book. It’s not the only time in this series this happens, but it is the first.

Rapture in Death by J.D. Robb

Book four! Eve is called upon to investigate an apparent suicide, but everything is not as it seems. This one did a good job of hiding the killer until the very end. I appreciated that the first time I read it.

Decieved by the Gargoyles by Lillian Lark

The story of a witch tired of dating people who are just after her for her family’s name, so she goes to the magical matchmaker to set her up, but it doesn’t turn out the way she expects. I’m trying to read more romance books to give the genre more of a chance, but y’all. Y’all. If you like very spicy books, go for it.

Ceremony in Death by J.D. Robb

In this, the fifth book in the series, Eve is called upon to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow officer, which plunges her headlong into the world of the occult. This was a solid entry into the In Death series, though not as good as the last few.

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

A group of young women are abducted and then are left stranded on an alien planet. There Georgie, the unofficial leader of the group, must venture away from the crash site and find help. What she finds is a seven-foot-tall blue alien. TikTok put this on my radar a while ago, and while I was debating reading it, I finally just gave in. It was okay for a spicy book. It actually had a plot to it, and I found the language barrier a thing you don’t often see visualized in a lot of sci-fi books.

Would you believe that I was too busy reading and worrying if my power was going to go out that I didn’t actually post anything? It just completely slipped my mind. Ah well. Tomorrow is a new week.

Blog Posts

I started off the week with a post about how I’m going to read my way through the In Death series.

Tuesday was a list of books with names in the title. This was a fun list to come up with.

WWW Wednesday was up next. You can see how my reading has really progressed as opposed to last month.

Thursday was my January reading wrap-up. It was a pretty decent list considering how my month went.

Friday just so happens to be First Lines Friday. I picked a book I’m hoping to get to this month.

Top Ten Tuesday and WWW Wednesday are tied for my most popular posts of the week.

In Other News

They released character posters for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. They are stunning. We have no idea who is who, but they are still fabulous nonetheless. I got this poster from Theonering.net. You can see the rest of the posters there.

Weekly Round-Up: Week of January 8, 2022

Well hello, beautiful people! I hope you had a wonderful week! Mine has been…interesting, to say the least. As a result, my reading slowed down considerably this week. I started off so strong! I started and finished a novella and then finished another book I had started in December. I also started a new book!

What I Read This Week!

Once More Upon a Time by Roshani Chokshi

Once More Upon A Time was a lighthearted fairy tale/adventure novella about finding love and overcoming toxic families. I found myself laughing at the antics in this book more than I thought, and I thoroughly enjoyed the character interactions. And the loves story was first-rate. If you have Audible and don’t want to pick up the book, this was an Audible original back in 2020 that made it to print.

The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews

This heartwarming tale is all about a woman who moves to a small town and finds a Santa suit in her new house. In the pockets, she finds a note and she sets out on a quest to find out who wrote the note. It’s such a sweet tale. I saw the ending coming a mile away, but that didn’t diminish my enjoyment of it at all. I’m just sorry it took me so long to finish it, as it was very much the perfect holiday read.

Instagram Posts

Most of my followers on Instagram are family (hi guys!), and they don’t often like my books posts. So go give my very sporadically posted account a try!

This last one got posted just this morning! I still don’t know what I’m doing on Bookstagram, but I have fun doing it.

Blog Posts

I posted five blog posts. Spoiler alert, that’s how many I usually post. I don’t have enough time to write more than that. And I need a day off for myself to practice self-care.

I started the week off with my Christmas Book Haul. I don’t know why, but of all the books I picked up (not the books I was given), I am most excited about The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki.

Tuesday saw me post the newest installment of Top Ten Tuesday. It was all about the most anticipated new releases in the first half of 2022. This was also my most liked post for the week!

WWW Wednesday was up next. That’s the meme where you talk all about what you are reading that week, among other things.

Thursday was all about the books I read in December.

Friday is all about First Lines Friday. This week’s selection is a book club pick!

In Other News

I’ve had an office since we moved into this house, but have very rarely used it, as I didn’t like the chair I had. I finally got a new desk chair.

This Captain Marvel gaming chair also came with lumbar support and headrest, but I don’t need those. You can find the chair here. They also make Deadpool, Captain American, Iron Man, Black Panther, and Spider-man chairs. And if you want something non-Marvel, they make other styles and colors too. It’s a very, very comfy chair, and I highly recommend it. Also yes, I am a big nerd.

A Discovery of Witches returns to Sundance Now today with a new episode every week for the next 7 weeks! I don’t watch a lot of TV, so I make an exception for this show. I’m so excited! More exclamation points! If you haven’t heard me rave about this book series in the past, I wrote a review on it here.

Well, I hope you’ve had fun with the new format. I’ll probably play around with it a little bit until I find something I’m super happy with. But I kind of like this one.
