WWW Wednesday-October 20th

Happiest of Wednesday’s everyone! Now, tell me, is it a Bones day? Because I haven’t checked yet and my day can’t go on until I know.

Noodles the pug has taken over my life. If you want to know more about Noodles, here is a helpful article from NPR.

Anyway, you didn’t come here for Noodles, you came here for WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words but was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. WWW Wednesday asks three simple questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

A Cosmology of Monsters by Shaun Hamill

Noah’s dad can see monsters, so he built a horror theme park around them. But Noah sees monsters too, and unlike the rest of his family, he let’s them in. I just started this last night and have yet to form any kind of opinion, but I’ve really been looking forward to this one.

What did you recently finish reading?

Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper

Emmy hasn’t been home in a long time, thanks in no small part to a broken heart. But when a spellcasting tourney her family oversees takes place, she must return home. Only once there she runs into Talia, who was also seeing her ex. Turns out, her best friend was also seeing said ex at the same time. Now the two want revenge, but is Emmy in? This is my second romance read this month. What is even happening with me? I even liked it. What? And there is a sequel coming out next year? Want!

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

A group of Final Girls, and their therapist, form a support group to help each other deal with what they’ve been through, but when they start being picked off, they realize they have to stick together to survive. I loved A Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by the author and I have been waiting until the spookiest of months to read this one.

Do any of these sound good to you? What are you picking up next?

WWW Wednesday-October 13th

Happy Wednesday everyone! How are y’ll doin’? Are you taking care of yourselves? Drinking lots of water, taking your meds, and practicing good self care?

As for me, well, I remembered to write this post last night, so that’s going great!

But enough about that, on to WWW Wednesday!

Vampires Never Get Old edited by Zoraida Cordova and Natalie C. Parker

A collection of short stories about vampires by such notable authors as Rebecca Roanhorse, V.E. Schwab, and Julie Murphy. It’s YA, so you can’t expect anything to gruesome out of it. I just started it, so I’ll let you know how it goes. Anthologies are always a toss up, aren’t they?

The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

Immanuelle never fit in. And when she finds her mother’s diary in the forbidden woods around her village, it opens up new possibilities for her, but can she use that to save the village? This is a terrible description and I’ve only just started this one too. I keep bouncing back and forth between both books if I’m honest.

What did you recently finish reading?

Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs

Mercy just so happens to have a mystical artifact that belongs to the Fae. One of them will do anything to get it back. I’m really enjoying my re-read of this series. I’m trying very hard not to read eight books in eight days. I have stuff to do y’all!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Payback’s A Witch by Lana Harper

Emmy hasn’t been home in a long time, thanks in no small part to a broken heart. But when a spellcasting tourney her family oversees takes place, she must return home. Only once there she runs into Talia, who was also seeing her ex. Turns out, her best friend was also seeing said ex at the same time. Now the two want revenge, but is Emmy in? My library hold on this just came through last night, which is weird, since I wasn’t expecting it for another few months! That’s right, I said months.

And there it is. Another weeks worth of book reading! So exciting. What are you reading this week?

WWW Wednesday-October 6th!

Well, my mind is curiously devoid of a witty greeting this morning, as I usually write this particular post the night (or day) before it actually goes live.

What I’m trying to say is I am tired and the tea hasn’t kicked in yet.

But, we can’t let this distract us from the reason we are really here. You want to see WWW Wednesday. Or, more accurately, I want to write it.

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words but was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.

WWW Wednesday asks three simple questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

What am I currently reading?

A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow

Zinnia will not live past 21. It’s not her fault, there was an industrial accident when she was a child, and no one involved has lived past 21. But when she pricks her finger on a spinning wheel, she finds herself transported to another realm, where another sleeping beauty is trying to escape her fate. I started this book way to late last night and made it about a quarter of the way through before it was past my bed time. Yup, I have a bed time otherwise I would stay up until three A.M. reading books every night!

What did you recently finish reading?

Child of Light by Terry Brooks

At 19 Auris escapes the only home she can remember since loosing her memory at 15. Of course that home happened to be a prison camp that she was desperate to flee. After narrowly escaping with her life, she makes her way to the land of the wood fae, where she discovers she may not be as human as she thought. I got this book as a ARC from NetGalley and the review will be up next week.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao

Zetain is seeking revenge against the Chrysalis pilot who is responsible for her sisters death. Especially because the system is set up to kill the girls involved in it. But when Zetain emerges victorious and her pilot dead, she is declared an Iron Widow, the most feared, and most silenced, of all concubine-pilots. This book sounds so good and I got is as a birthday gift from the hubs!

And there it is. My WWW Wednesday! I can’t tell you how many times I spelled Wednesday wrong today. I’ve really had problems with the tea not kicking in this morning.

WWW Wednesday-September 29th

Well hello happy people!

At least, I hope you’re happy. And if your not happy, remember it’s going to be okay (eventually), so drink some water and take your meds.

Apparently, I’m feeling deep today.

But, it is Wednesday, so that means it’s WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is a meme that was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived at Taking on a World of Words. It asks three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

On to the books!

What are you currently reading?

Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs

It’s the second in the Mercy Thompson series, and as to be expected, I am loving it. Basically, Mercy owes a vampire a favor, and he calls to collect it. Of course everything goes horribly wrong.

What did you recently finish reading?

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

The story of growing up during the Islamic Revolution and afterwards. It’s a graphic novel based on real events, and I loved the last one I read like that, but this one was a miss for me. And it wasn’t the story or the art, it was the writing style.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs

I am definitely on a Mercy Thompson kick. And the books are such a quick and easy read, for me at least. I wasn’t planning on reading so many of them right now, but what the hey.

Well, there you have it, my WWW Wednesday for this week. I’m off to get a much needed hair cut, which has me very excited!

WWW Wednesday-September 22nd

Happy Fall Y’all!

Although it doesn’t quite feel like fall in Texas yet, we are almost there. It’s 82 degrees today. But don’t let that fool ya. It’s supposed to be in the 90’s later this week.

Hooray.

Anyhoo…it’s time for WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is a bookish meme that was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and reanimated at Taking on a World of Words.

It asks three simple questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

So on to the answers!

What are you currently reading?

The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

Huzzah! I have finally gotten to this book. And it’s only 780 pages long. I’m excited to read it, and I know the hubs is happy for me to read it as well.

What did you recently finish reading?

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

I’d been meaning to re-read this series for a while now, so finishing this in a few hours was fun. The Mercy Thompson series is great if your looking for a five star, entertaining, fast paced read. Also werewolves, vampires, and werecoyotes. So there’s that.

Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn

This re-read was a long time coming. I mean a long time. The story of Rohan, a desert dwelling prince, and Sioned, a magically gifted Sunrunner. I have loved these books since I was in high school. This series also launched my “see a Michael Whelan cover, pick up that book” spell I went through. That period didn’t always pan out.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Forgotten in Death by J.D. Robb

This is the 53rd installment in the In Death series. I’m not gonna lie, I have no idea what this book is about. I’m gonna guess a murder that Eve has to solve with her colorful cast of characters, plus her handsome (and rich) husband, Roarke. I got this on the 6th, and to my shock and amazement, haven’t read it yet. Usually I go through these titles in a day or two as soon as I get them.

And there ya go, my answers to WWW Wednesday. What are you planning on reading next?

WWW Wednesday-September 15th

Ah, another week, another Wednesday.

That means it’s time for WWW Wednesday!

What is WWW Wednesday? Well, it’s a bookish meme that was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and was revitalized by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

It asks the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

On to the answers!

What are you currently reading?

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss

This particular book is a book club pick for my in person book club. I just started it the other day and am excited to really get into it. It has such a good premise. The daughters of Victorian monsters team up with Sherlock Holmes? Sounds amazing.

What did you recently finish reading?

The Hike by Drew Magary

So, I don’t know if it counts as finished, but I DNF’d this one. It was just a little too weird for me. And I really enjoyed The Postmortal by the author, so I had high hopes. This was a pick by my online book club, and yeah. The premise sounded good. A man goes on a hike, but if he strays from the path, he dies. Oh, and lots of weirdness happens. This book just wasn’t for me.

What book do you think you’ll read next?

Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn

I know what you’re thinking: “but Lauren, didn’t you already read this book this month?” Kinda? I haven’t finished it yet. I got about halfway through when I realized I had book club deadlines I had to reach, so I had to stop reading it. I’m hoping my ADHD rattled brain will allow me to pick this one back up instead of starting another book. We shall see.

And there it is! My WWW Wednesday for this week. Books are fun, aren’t they?

WWW Wednesday-September 8th!

Happiest Wednesday to you all! Are you having a good week so far? If you are in the US of A, did you have a relaxing Labor Day?

I did. I sat at home and read. Big, huge shocker. I know.

Anyhoo. It’s time for WWW Wednesday!

It’s that time of the week when we ask our selves three simple questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

It’s hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words, but was originally hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. We thank them for it, because it’s fun!

What are you currently reading?

The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

I first started this book as an audio book some years ago. I am determined to finish it before the first season comes out in November. I am still listening to it as an audio book, but that’s while I work on my Animal Crossing island. I’m trying to finish that before October comes. Zeesh.

The Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn

I’ve been meaning to re-read this book for years, so I added it to my TBR for this month. It’s been fun getting to know all the characters again. Though I still have no idea how to pronounce any of their names. Part of the fun.

What did you recently finish reading?

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

I recently received the ARC of this from NetGalley and couldn’t have been more excited to get this one. I have a book review of it coming next week that I’m excited to share with all of you, so that will be fun! For me at least. I don’t know if you will find it fun. You know how I ramble when I get excited.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

I’ve been meaning to pick this series back up for a while, so I figured this month was the perfect month to do that. Here’s hoping I’m not wrong!

What does your WWW Wednesday look like? Comment below!

WWW Wednesday-September 1st!

And just like that it’s a whole new month! Welcome friends, to September!

Fall is almost here!

Although I did buy a fall candle on Monday, so does that mean it has already arrived in my house? Ooh, can I put out my pumpkins? Would my husband be a fan of Halloween in September?

I’m going to go with no on that last one. He always asks me to wait on the Halloween decorations.

But why wait, I ask you? Why wait?

Oh dear, I seem to have lost the plot, which is WWW Wednesday! It’s a bookish meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. All you have to do is answer the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Heartless by Gail Carriger

I loved the last three books in this series and had purchased the whole run, but I hadn’t finished it. So I thought, well, why not work on that? So I am. Totally makes sense.

What did you recently finish reading?

Introducing Quantum Theory: A Graphic Guide to Science’s Most Puzzling Discovery by J.P. McEvoy, Oscar Zárate

This book took me two months to slough through, and I remember none of it. At all. Not one iota. You can ask me anything about quantum theory and my reply will be “whatever”. I’m more interested in cosmology or astrophysics. That holds my attention and I can retain that information. But, if you are into quantum theory and want to learn more, this book may be for you.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Timeless by Gail Carriger

I suppose I’ll try and finish the Parasol Protectorate series, now won’t I? This is the last book in the series, but thanks to The Storygraph, I have learned there are tiny little stories set in the world that I now have to track down and find. Bother.

The Hike by Drew Magary

This is the pick for the month of September for the Literarily Wasted book club. If you’re a Sci-fi/Fantasy fan, go join! You can find them on the Facebook in two places, the official page where they host the book club meetings twice a month for one hour each time (online!), or the lounge, which is for members to gather and talk. Each month they split the book in twain, you read up to a certain point and that’s the point the first discussion is up to when they do the live chat. At the end of the month they discuss they whole book. It’s a lot of fun.

So I’m a mood reader (What? No? You’ve never mentioned this before she say’s sarcastically) so who knows if those will actually be the two books I get to next, but we shall see!

WWW Wednesday-August 4th!

Well hello there!

Any excuse to use that gif, honestly.

It’s WWW Wednesday! This bookish meme is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. I had so much fun doing it last week that I thought I’d give it a try again this week.

All you have to do for this meme is answer three simple questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? And what do you think you’ll read next?

Onto the questions!

What are you currently reading?

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I stated reading this one, like, today. As in, I got five pages into it when I remembered that I had this post to write up so I can tell you absolutely nothing about this book. Go me! I can tell you based on what I have read that I am excited to continue it.

Introducing Quantum Theory: A Graphic Guide by J.P McEvoy & Oscar Zarate

This is an informative read that I picked up on Kindle Unlimited a while back and actually just started getting into reading it. It’s very informative. And the illustrations range from actual art to copies of actual pictures from history. It’s pretty neat. Also, yes, I am that kind of nerd.

What did you recently finish reading?

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The story of a boy who thinks he’s just a regular, if troubled, kid who finds out he’s a demigod and then has to go on a quest? Yes, I will read that. Except I didn’t like this book. I didn’t hate it either. It was just meh. I looked up some reviews online and found out the series does get better, but I don’t know, should I continue it?

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

Do I know if I’ll actually read this book next? I have no idea. I’m a mood reader with a TBR. It doesn’t always work out. But this is one of my book club’s pick for August, so I do need to read it. Might as well be sooner rather than later, right?

And there we go, a nice new empire, I mean list of books for WWW Wednesday. What are you reading?

WWW Wednesday- July 28th

Well hello! Me, posting on a Wednesday? Whatever is happening?

I’ve seen this post going around the blog-o’sphere and thought I’d give it a try! WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words! It’s a pretty simple concept. Every week you answer three questions:

What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

Now, I won’t do this every week, because I don’t read that many books in a month to make it worth doing. Also, I’m mood reader so I don’t always know what I’m reading next, but I know what I’m doing this week, so I figured, why not!

What are you currently reading?

Blameless by Gail Carriger. I’m loving this series. I read the first one for a virtual book club I’m in and I couldn’t put it down. It was described as Buffy meets Jane Austin and I would have to agree…although there is a little bit of spice thrown in there.

The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn by Tyler Whitesides is good, but it’s also a slow read for me. I started it while on my two week trip and am still working on it now.

Could i be reading two more different books?

What did you recently finish reading?

Changeless by Gail Carriger was great. I’m telling you, this series is fire, and it starts with Soulless, so pick that up! I’m moving through it at a fast clip and should be done with it before the month is out. I started reading it last week.

Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers was a great book. I would absolutely love to see more of this world and am hoping for exactly that. It’s very heartwarming and Mosscap made me smile.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Heartless by Gail Carriger. This one was easy. I’m very excited to finish this series. One book left after this one, and then there is a follow up series set in the same world. I love it when I find an author whose work just sucks me in.

That was fun! What do you think? Do you like seeing what people have read, are reading, and will be reading? Let me know!
