WWW Wednesday-April 24

Well, it’s been a minute! Hello! I’m alive! Exclamation point! I have gotten lost in a couple of crochet projects. They have been consuming my every thought here recently.

On the flip side of that, I have been listening to an absurd amount of audiobooks as a result. It has been wonderful being able to combine the two things. So let’s do a WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wednesday is the day when we answer the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? It’s hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words but was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.

What are you currently reading?

Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer is a library audiobook that I will not make it through before the loan expires. Thankfully I own the physical copy, so I can finish it that way! It’s, um, decent so far, but I am only on chapter four.

What did you recently finish reading?

Nine Month Contract by Amy Daws had me howling with laughter at the chapter titles at the beginning of the book. It was a great listen if you like romance!

The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer was whimsical and sweet. Just what I needed after I dnf’d a different book club’s pick. I had to utilize both the audiobook and the physical book to read this one. I regret nothing.

At First Spite by Olivia Dade was surprising. It touched on quite a few heavy topics for a romance, so please read trigger warnings before reading. That being said, I both laughed and cried at this book. She is now an auto-buy author for me.

What will you read next?

Murder by the Book by Lauren Elliot is a cozy mystery that I picked up for one of the many book clubs I am in! It looks really cute. I have to have it read by next Tuesday, so I need to get started now!

What does your WWW Wednesday look like?

WWW Wednesday-March 13

Hello there! How are y’all doing? I’m still crocheting the granny squares so the audiobooks have been my friends!

And since today is Wednesday, I thought I’d do WWW Wednesday for you!

The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks by Shauna Robinson, read by Imani Jade Powers is my work audiobook. I only just started it but I am enjoying it. It’s contemporary fiction about a bookstore, and I tend to love stories about bookshops.

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston is a book club pick for the month. I am 20% through it and it is just kind eh so far. I’m hoping it gets better. I really want to finish a book for this book club this year, as I haven’t finished a lot of them in the past.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, read by Andy Serkis is my car audiobook. I’ve been enjoying the heck out of it. I have grabbed all of the Andy Serkis versions of the Tolkien audiobooks so I can enjoy them. This is how I am going to consume the LOTR trilogy for my reading goal, by the way.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

The Lies of the Ajungo by Moses Ose Utomi was a great pick I discovered on TikTok. I picked it up through the Libby app and now want to grab a physical copy of it. It’s a short little novella but it packs a punch.

Out On a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young was fantastic. It was emotional and funny and had great disability rep (from an able-bodied person’s perspective). It’s also an indie darling, so naturally, it’s been picked up by a traditional publisher.

French Holiday by Sarah Ready, read by Kelsy Navarro was a cute audiobook. The characters were surprisingly complex and it had quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. This was a problem because I was at work while I was listening to it.

DNF: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Sorry y’all, this just wasn’t for me. It’s the first book I DNF’d in a while though, so that’s good.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

Small Game by Blair Braverman is a book for my other book club. So I have to read that. It has some… let’s say interesting reviews.

What is on your WWW Wednesday?

WWW Wednesday- January 24th

Hello beautiful book people! I can’t believe it. I have now posted more in this first month than I did by mid-July of last year. Whoo hoo!! I’m very motivated to maintain a good posting pace, even if it’s just once a week. But enough about that, on to the books!!

WWW Wednesday is the day when we answer the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? It’s hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words but was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.

What am I currently reading?

Is it weird to claim a collection of six short stories/novellas as one book? I’ve read two of the six so far (they came out yesterday!) and they are pretty good. The Abby Jimenez one made me emotional, which was rude, but it was actually cute so I’ll give it a pass. If you have an Amazon Prime membership they are free to read or listen to.

Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter is a cute rom-com. But does it count if the library app took the book back before I could finish it? I have a physical copy, but I had heard the audiobook was good, so I wanted to try that, I just couldn’t finish it in time!

The Fake Boyfriend Fiasco by Talia Hibbert is adorable. I love the heroine and her back story. I am a Talia Hibbert book stan and will forever add her books to my shelves. This is also a library selection, by the by. I had a whole bunch of holds dumped on me at once. so I am trying to get through them as fast as I can.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas. Yup, I’m still reading this. I have about seventy pages left and for some strange reason, I am just struggling with it. I switched to audiobook and that went better, but yeah. It’s not a bad book, I actually enjoy it. I just don’t know. Just can’t seem to finish it.

What did I recently finish reading?

Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen ended up being just delightful. I even ended up using those little tabs in the book!!! I don’t tab books! So many good quotes. It was a book club book, so a few people recommended her back catalog and I’m probably going to check that out.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn is one of the ones I will be reading in the next two weeks. Why two weeks? Because it was one of the selections Libby (my library app) thought I needed right now. I’ve wanted to read this for a while, so I’m excited about it!

After Hours on Milagro Street by Angelina M. Lopez is another Libby drop that I have been excited about. Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish it before it disappears!

By the by, how are you doing today? Having a good one? How’s your mental health? I hope it’s well.

WWW Wednesday January 17

Welp, I almost said “Hello True Believers”! Who do I think I am, Stan Lee? Have y’all been staying safe and warm in this polar vortex? No frozen pipes? One of my neighbors forgot to turn off their sprinkler system, and, well, the sheet of ice that was their front lawn was quite the sight.

But even in these frozen times, the books must be read! And it’s WWW Wednesday! Huzzah!

Other Birds by Sarah Allen Addison is a quirky magical realism tale. I tried listening to the audiobook, but the Southern accents made my ears bleed, and given that this book takes place in the South, well, that is a problem. I am having a much better time since I switched to the physical book. So far it’s cute.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas is one that I started over a week ago and just haven’t finished. I am going to finish it this week! I promise…she says as if she doesn’t have twelve other books she needs to finish first.

What did you recently finish reading?

Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher is one of those books I was really hoping to love, as I really enjoyed the last book I read by her. Alas, I did not enjoy this. It was more of a vibes thing for me than anything else. The writing was good and the story had good potential, I just wasn’t feeling it. Still want to read other stuff by her though.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Horse by Geraldine Brooks is a book I know I have to read. It’s for work book club next month, so they make me read it. But if I’m the one who runs the program and picks out the books, I make me read it? So it’s my own fault? Yes…yes it is.

What are you reading right now? Inquiring minds want to know!

WWW Wednesday December 27th

Well hello! It’s been a minute! How ya been? Me, I’ve been good. I picked up more hours at work back in October and, well, I put the blog on hold for longer than I intended. I’m not going to say I’m back, but I am going to make more of a conscious effort to be present here in the blogosphere!

And hey! It’s WWW Wednesday!

In the Weeds by B.K. Borison is the sequel to Lovelight Farms, which I loved. And, shocker, I am loving this one too. This series started as an indie darling and was picked up by a traditional publisher. Makes me happy to see indies break it big!

What did I recently finish reading?

The Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese was a short little novella that I finished just in time for the holidays. I really love rom-coms that center around book stores, and this one also has some fantastic disability rep. The downside is that the e-book version is only available on something called KOBO (never heard of it) so when I got it from my library I had to read it on my phone. On the plus side, there is a paperback that exists, and I will be purchasing that.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come by Jessica Pan is a book club pick for the month. I have to read it by Saturday and I haven’t started it yet!!! Eep! It is under 300 pages long though, so it should be a quick read.

Have a wonderful new year!!!

WWW Wednesday

Well hello! How are y’all doing? How was your holiday? The hubs and I spent the last three days playing board games! Naturally, I was in heaven. And hey, time spent with the hubs is always a win!

In other news, my horribly depressing reading slump is over! I read exactly zero books in May and didn’t start reading again until the end of June when I read 6 books in the last week and a half! In celebration, I’m doing WWW Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is the day when we answer the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? It’s hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words but was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.

Currently Reading

I am only 30 pages into The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer, so I can’t say whether or not I like it yet, but I am going to continue reading it! So that’s good!

I’m listening to the audiobook of I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai. I’m about an hour into this (I listen at 2 times speed). Julia Wheelan is the narrator and I love her, but I’m not sure about the content. The story flows a little weirdly.

Recently Finished

When in Rome by Sarah Adams was an adorable grumpy/sunshine romance based on the movie Roman Holiday. I really liked this one, and at 300 pages it was a pretty quick read.

Reading Next

A book club pick for July, Happy Place by Emily Henry is my next read. I’m not gonna lie, Emily Henry is not my favorite author, I haven’t liked a single book I’ve read by her, so I don’t have high hopes for it. I am going to give it my best shot though!

July is looking to be a good reading month for me, even though I spent the first few days playing board games. When your two hobbies clash something has got to give, and I ain’t mad about that.

WWW Wednesday: November 16th

Well, I don’t know about you but it’s been a fun week. I went on a girls’ weekend and had a fantastic time. Now I’m prepping for the upcoming holiday season by cleaning and decorating. I may have had to buy a new, smaller, Christmas tree because I put a bookshelf where my bigger Christmas tree used to go. Oops.

I know I haven’t done it in a while, but let’s do WWW Wednesday! WWW Wednesday is the day when we answer the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? It’s hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

What are you currently reading?

A Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone got started as an audiobook while I was coming back from the girls’ weekend, but the male narrator didn’t do a particular accent very well, and it took me out of the story. I have the physical copy so I picked it up at home. This book is pure chaos and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.

Upgrade by Blake Crouch is a book club pick and I just started it this morning. In fact, I got one chapter into it before I realized I needed to write a blog post so…does one chapter count?

What did you recently finish reading?

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center was not what I expected from a rom-com, but I liked it nonetheless. I listened to this as an audiobook on the way out of town and it was well performed. I had a fun time listening to it and would highly recommend it.

Isn’t It Bromantic by Lyssa Kay Adams is the fourth entry into the Bromance Book Club series. This one is about the Russian, as he is affectionately referred to by his friends. It’s the marriage of convenience trope, but they are already married at the start of the book. I loved it and would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance novels.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Unbound Empire by Melissa Caruso is what’s up next on my TBR and I am excited to start it. Of course, I also have two other books that I want to pick up, but I’m hoping to actually finish that TBR this month. This book is the third and final story in the Swords and Fire series and I loved the first two books.

So tell me, what are you reading now?

WWW Wednesday: June 22, 2022

Well hello beautiful people! I’m back, and wasn’t that quick! The help desk contacted me after I had gone to bed last night with a bunch of helpful instructions, but I decided to try accessing the website one more time this morning before doing them, and behold, I am here! I’m so excited!

In celebration let’s do WWW Wednesday!

Beach Read by Emily Henry

I started this a few days ago and haven’t gotten very far into it. To be fair, It’s not the book’s fault, I have been very busy. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far, and I’m excited to get back into it.

What did you recently finish reading?

That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf by Kimberly Lemming

This is the second book in the Mead Mishaps series and I saw the first one on TikTok and I couldn’t resist. They are…um…different. They don’t take themselves seriously and have so many pop culture references for books set in a fantasy world. This book is a romantic comedy novella and is available on Kindle Unlimited.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m torn between reading a few books. I recently picked up the classic Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall and have been wanting to read that for a while, but I also have Chef’s Kiss by TJ Alexander. I also just got A Mirror Mended by Alix E. Harrow. Mood reading is not for the faint of heart my friends.

What are you reading?

WWW Wednesday: June 15, 2022

Well hello beautiful people! Is it hot where you are? It’s been roasting here the last couple of days, and naturally, it shall be roasting until October. Cuz Texas.

It’s WWW Wednesday! It’s the day when we answer the three W’s: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? It’s hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words but was previously hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm.

What are you currently reading?

Calculated in Death by J.D. Robb

This is the 36th book in the In Death series. This particular story is about a woman who is murdered and our plucky (Eve could never be considered plucky) detective can’t quite figure out why this particular woman. I’m only a few chapters in as I started it last night and it’s going good so far. What else would I expect from this series?

What did you recently finish reading?

Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

This is the second book in the Bromance Book Club series. This particular one is about Mack, who enjoys the espionage romance trope most of all. Of course, he gets caught up in a plot to help his love interest. I really enjoyed this story and had a fun time reading it. It did have some tense moments, because espionage.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Beach Read by Emily Henry

I have to read this one for my book club next week, and I haven’t picked it up yet! Woe is me! I have had issues with the last two books I read by this author so I’m going to go into this with low expectations.

What are you reading?

WWW Wednesday: June 8, 2022

Hello beautiful people! How are you doing this fine Wednesday? Me, I am doing great! I get to go to work and be surrounded by books! I know, I can’t bring them all home with me, and that’s okay. But it’s awesome to see so many people be so enthusiastic about books! Especially since summer reading has started.

The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer

I only just started it last night and I am only a few pages into the story and it’s due back today. I found the audiobook on Scribd though, so I’m going to switch to that. I loved the start of the story so I am excited to continue. Also, the ship’s operating system sounds like our protagonist’s mom. Yeah, that’s disturbing.

What did you recently finish reading?

Delusion In Death by J.D. Robb

The 35th book in the In Death series. This one is about a killer who decides that mass murder through hallucinations is the way to go. It’s very gruesome so you’ll want to check trigger warnings.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Calculated In Death by J.D. Robb

I’m going to try to make an In Death book for every other book that I read this month. Should be an interesting experiment.

What is your current read?
